About the experience

XR Boxer is primarily focused on Arcade Mode, which is my own take on a VR rhythm game experience. However, it also contains two additional modes (Timed and Scripted) that are more akin to working out at a real gym with traditional punching bags.

Punches

Regardless of which mode you're in, XR Boxer evaluates your form when throwing the six most common punches in boxing -- the jab, the straight, lead and rear hooks, and lead and rear uppercuts. If you've never boxed before, this video provides a good introduction. Check it out and practice those punches. This article has some good diagrams explaining the same concepts.

Arcade Mode

In Arcade Mode, different shaped punch targets will approach you. Different shapes require different punches:

As well as punch targets, you'll also see three types of dodge targets:

As you punch and dodge targets, you'll earn points and fill up the Bonus Bar. Proper punch form and harder punches will earn you more points and fill the Bonus Bar up more quickly. When the Bonus Bar is complete filled up, you'll earn a score multiplier on all punches and dodges until the bar is exhausted.

Timed and Scripted Modes

If you're new to boxing workouts, I'd recommend the videos on this page as a great place to start. They cover a lot of the basics -- proper boxing stance, how to throw the six types of punches, and more. Not everything there is relevant to XR Boxer, but there are also lots of good suggestions for different routines you can work through in the non-Arcade modes.
